Chamber Named Bronze Partner!

The Placentia Chamber of Commerce was recently recognized by the Kids Eat Smart Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador for its continued support of the foundation.

Nickie Shanks, Regional Coordinator for Avalon West, Burin and Vista, visited the Chamber recently to meet with representatives to officially recognize the Chamber as a Kids Eat Smart Bronze Partner for 2018-2019.

Kids Eat Smart is a registered charity that supports the education, health, and well-being of school age children in Newfoundland and Labrador through nutrition programs run by volunteers at schools and community centres across the province. This includes morning breakfast programs at St. Anne’s Academy and Laval High School in Placentia. These programs welcome all children to enjoy breakfast at no charge to families. The goal of the organization is to provide children with the nutrition they need to learn, to grow, and to be their very best.

For the last several years the Placentia Chamber of Commerce has dedicated the charity benefit event held during the Placentia Bay Industrial Showcase (PBIS) to support Kids Eat Smart Programs at St. Anne’s Academy and Laval High School. It is estimated that over $8000.00 has been contributed to the organization over the years.

2019 Donation

This year the PBIS Benefit Night featured a karaoke social hosted by Floyd Edison at The Three Sisters Pub. As participants took advantage of the networking opportunity, some braved the stage to perform their favourite song while encouraging donations toward this important cause. This year the event raised an impressive $2030.00!

Through a donation matching program facilitated by the Foundation the proceeds from the fundraiser will see both St. Anne’s Academy and Laval High School receive $2030.00 each. Kids Eat Smart estimates that each breakfast served costs $1.00, meaning this year the donation will provide over 2000 breakfast servings to each school. This will go a long way in helping ensure the program attains its goals and objectives this school year.

“The Placentia Chamber of Commerce is proud to support this important program in our community and thanks all of the participants who supported the fundraiser.”
